Athlete of the Week for Feb. 27, 2017

Regan Fathers was outstanding all weekend long at the ACAC Men's Volleyball Conference Championships. Fathers received the player-of-the-game honours in all 3 of RDC's matches and was named tournament MVP. The Kinesiology and Sport Studies student had 17 kills, 4 aces and 7 digs in the quarter-final match against NAIT. He followed that up with 16 kills, 4 aces and 2 blocks in the semi-finals against the top seeded Keyano College Huskies from the North Division. However, he may have saved his best for last and took over in the 5th set of the gold medal match to lead his team to a 15-9 victory over the Medicine Hat College Rattlers (top seed in the South Division). He finished the final match with 26 kills, 3 aces and a block.

Over the weekend, Fathers picked up a total 59 kills, 11 aces, 3 blocks and 16 digs. With combined kills, aces and blocks he averaged a very impressive 6.1 points per set on the weekend. Fathers was a huge reason why the Kings were able to win their 2nd consecutive ACAC title and 4th in the last 5 years.

Athlete of the Week for Jan. 9, 2017

Regan Fathers had an outstanding match on Friday against the Olds College Broncos. Regan had 18 kills on 28 attempts and was 58% efficient in a quick 3 set win for the RDC Kings (25-11, 25-19 and 25-14). He also added 5 service aces and 1 block for a total of 24 points (8 points per set) on the night. Throughout the night, Regan did a great job of bettering the ball and looking after the little details. The Kings will need him to continue to do that at a high level throughout the second semester. He was named Player of the Match for his efforts on Friday. The Kings also swept the Broncos on Saturday (25-17, 25-6 and 25-18).

Athlete of the Week for Nov. 21, 2016

Regan Fathers had a very strong weekend for the RDC Kings Volleyball team, leading them to a weekend sweep of the Ambrose University Lions to finish off the first half of ACAC league play with a 10-2 record. On Friday, Regan had 14 kills (4.67 kills/game) on only 18 attempts in Ambrose with a hitting efficiency of 56%.  He added 2 stuff blocks and 5 digs and picked up the Kings player-of-the-game honours. On Saturday he was even better from an efficiency perspective, picking up 13 kills on 19 attempts with only two attack errors (58% efficient) at RDC. He added 1 ace, 2 blocks and 2 digs. Regan leads the ACAC in kills per set and total kills and is a big reason why the Kings sit first in the ACAC South Division heading into the Christmas break.

Athlete of the Week for Oct. 17, 2016

In a weekend series against the SAIT Trojans Regan Fathers put up some impressive numbers. Those numbers are even more outstanding considering that he has made a positional change this year, switching from power to right side. Fathers led the Kings Volleyball team in kills in both matches and essentially took over Saturday late in the fourth and fifth sets to help the Kings to a weekend sweep. In a three set win on Friday at SAIT he had 14 kills, 1 block, 1 service ace and 3 digs. On Saturday in a five set come from behind win Fathers had 21 kills, 2 blocks, 6 service aces and 9 digs and was named the Kings player-of-the-game. The Kinesiology and Sport Studies student finished the weekend with a total of 35 kills (4.4 per game), 3 blocks, 7 aces and 12 digs.
