The RDC Kings, who remain the top ranked Men's Volleyball team in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), faced the Ambrose University Lions in Calgary Friday evening. After the Lions made the opening set close (22-25), the Kings captured the next 2 sets in convincing fashion (25-16 and 25-12) to complete the sweep.

Kings Head Coach Aaron Schulha liked the team's effort and in particular the passing.

"We were pretty solid tonight and our passing was very strong," said Schulha. "In fact, our passing in this match was the best that it has been all season against a pretty good serving team."

While the Kings didn't have very good serving statistics on the night, Schulha attributed that to testing out a spin serve in game action.

"We didn't serve the ball very well (with 17 errors and only 2 aces)," said Schulha. "But we have 2 student-athletes who are working on a spin serve for the 1st time this season in a game, so it is somewhat to be expected."

Regan Fathers, the Kings player-of-the-game, had another strong match.

"Regan continued his strong play with 14 kills, which was 75% efficient, and 5 digs," said Schulha.

Setter, Ryan Beatson totalled 28 assists, 2 kills and 6 digs. Matthew Lofgren contributed 8 kills and 3 digs for RDC. As a team, the Kings finished with 35 kills, 30 assists, 2 service aces and 20 digs.

With the road victory, the RDC Kings (13-2) have won 8 matches in a row and stay in 1st place in the ACAC Men's Volleyball South Division with 26 points.

Saturday at 8:00 p.m., the RDC Kings host the same Ambrose University Lions in the 2nd half of the home-and-home series.
