Kings take rematch in 5 sets over Rattlers

In a Saturday afternoon rematch, it was a battle between 2 talented volleyball teams. Momentum swung back-and-forth but the Red Deer College Kings defeated the Medicine Hat College Rattlers in 5 sets.

The Rattlers took the opening set 25-20. The Kings evened up the match and won the 2nd set 25-22. Medicine Hat College defeated RDC 25-21 in set 3 and the Kings bounced back with a solid 25-18 victory in the 4th set. The match went to a deciding 5th set where the RDC Kings persevered and won 15-13.

Regan Fathers led the Kings with 19 kills. The Kinesiology and Sport Studies student added 2 service aces, 3 stuff blocks and 12 digs. Alfred Dalevik and Isak Helland-Hansen had 13 kills each for the Rattlers.

Kings Volleyball Head Coach Aaron Schulha was happy with several aspects of the game including the improved consistency.

"There were fewer unforced errors this afternoon, excluding the 3rd set," said Schulha. "We did a better job with our service pressure and our passing was more consistent today against a tough serving team."

Ty Moorman was named the RDC Kings player-of-the-game. 

"Ty took over the match late and finished with 10 kills and 4 stuff blocks," said Schulha. 

With the victory, the RDC Kings (17-5) remain in 2nd spot, improve to 34 points in the ACAC Men's Volleyball South Division and trail the Rattlers by only 2 points.

Only 2 regular season games remain. The Red Deer College Kings host the Briercrest College Clippers Friday, Feb. 17 at 8:00 p.m. The same teams hit the court Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
