Volleyball Kings sweep the Kodiaks in three sets

Volleyball Kings sweep the Kodiaks in three sets

The Red Deer College Kings Volleyball team took their 2-0 record into Lethbridge College Friday evening to face the Kodiaks and kept their perfect record in tact. The Kings swept the Kodiaks in three straight sets.

Opening the match the Kings defeated Lethbridge College 25-13 in the first set, 25-23 in the second set and 25-22 in the third and final set.

Leading the Kings with 11 kills was Regan Fathers.

Libero Michael Sumner was effective on the court and finished with 7 digs which led the Kings. Sumner was chosen as the Kings player-of-the-game.

Kings Head Coach Aaron Schulha was happy with the play of the second year Bachelor of Commerce student.

"Michael is showing that he is one of the best passers in the league," said Schulha. "He is very stable on the court and after seeing how effective he is, Lethbridge tried to avoid serving to him to limit his volume."

Despite the sweep Schulha wants to see a few areas improve on Saturday.

"We missed eight serves in the second set and got a little bit too complacent," said Schulha. "We still have some fine tuning to do and I would like for us to step up our game tomorrow."

There were many positive aspects of the Kings victory including on the defensive side of the ball.

"Tonight our defense was very stable," said Schulha. "The back row defense played very well in this match."

The RDC Kings face the Kodiaks again at Lethbridge College Saturday, Oct. 22 at 3:00 p.m.
