It was quite the weekend for the RDP Mixed Curling team as they went a perfect 6-0 record at the Winter Regional hosted by the NAIT Ooks at the Thistle Curling Club in Edmonton. The Polytechnic started out with a commanding 6-2 victory over the SAIT Trojans on Friday night. On Saturday, all four players on the team had a long day as they curled for 14 hours and played in four draws. They managed to defeat the Concordia University Thunder (12-5), the Trojans again (13-7), the Lakeland College Rustlers (6-4) and the Ooks (5-2). Capping off the perfect weekend, the Mixed team defeated the Rustlers yet again with a 7-4 final.

It was a great start to the season for the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings, Queens and Mixed Curling teams. The men were able to go 4-1 and sit tied for first place in a very competitive division. The Kings were able to defeat the University of Alberta-Augustana Vikings (10-6), the NAIT Ooks (10-5), the SAIT Trojans (8-3) and the Concordia University Thunder (6-3). The Kings one loss came against the Lakeland College Rustlers with RDP falling 8-3.

With thoughts of slides, brooms, rocks, the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings and Queens curlers are ready to hit the pebble for the 2023/2024 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) season.

Academic and athletic opportunities at RDP helped alum prepare for a career

Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) alum Jaycee Bourke is passionate about education.   Even though she completed her Red Deer Polytechnic program in Winter 2023 Term, Jaycee returned to a classroom in September.   Even though Jaycee has graduated from the Polytechnic, she plans to share her curling knowledge and leadership skills with current student-athletes.   “I’ve been asked to help coach the RDP Curling team this year,” she says. “I am very excited to stay connected to the curling program and Red Deer Polytechnic.”  The RDP Curling team will begin the new season at the ACAC Fall Regional from November 24 to 26 at the Lloydminster Golf and Curling Centre.
