RDC Athlete of the Week for Feb. 10, 2020

Goaltender Karlee Fetch had an incredible weekend on the ice, stopping 59 out of 60 shots (0.983) and helping the Queens pick up a pair of wins over the SAIT Trojans. In Friday’s 1-0 shutout home victory, the fifth-year made 27 saves and played an integral role in RDC earning two points in the standings. She was named the Collegiate Sports Medicine Queens Player-of-the-Game. Then the Open Studies student turned aside 32 out of 33 shots in Saturday’s 2-1 decision in Calgary. As SAIT pressed to tie the game, Fetch made many timely and outstanding saves, guiding her squad to another two points. For her dominant performance, the hard-working netminder from Prince Albert was recognized as the Queens Player-of-the-Game, once again. She has the third highest winning percentage among Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) goalies (0.727) this season. Fetch and the second place Red Deer College Queens (14-4-2-0) have already solidified a spot in the playoffs, with four regular season contests remaining.

Congratulations Karlee!

RDC Athlete of the Week for March 4, 2019

Karlee Fetch really developed her game in the RDC net throughout the season, and she peaked at the perfect time. This past week, the Hockey Queens had the task of facing the defending ACAC Champions, the MacEwan University Griffins, in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Women's Hockey semi-final. The fourth-year netminder was outstanding over the three game series and gave her Queens a chance to win. This past Friday, Karlee stopped 39 shots (0.929) in a 4-2 setback in Edmonton, with one of the Griffins’ goals hitting the empty net. At the Servus Arena, she made 34 saves out of 35 shots (0.971) and was named the Queens Player-of-the-Game, in a thrilling 2-1 overtime victory on Saturday. Then in game three’s 3-1 loss on Sunday, Karlee turned aside 35 out of 37 shots (0.946) in Edmonton. The third MacEwan goal found the open cage with Karlee on the bench. Despite the Griffins shading the Queens two games to one, the Open Studies student could have easily been named the top player of the series, from both teams. Over the three games, the student-athlete from Prince Albert incredibly made 108 saves out of 114 shots (0.947).

Congratulations Karlee!

RDC Athlete of the Week for Feb. 11, 2019

Goaltender Karlee Fetch was nearly unbeatable this past weekend against the defending Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Women’s Hockey Champions, the MacEwan University Griffins. The fourth-year came on in relief about half-way through Friday’s contest, turning aside all 15 shots she faced. Then on Saturday in Edmonton, the Open Studies student put on a goaltending clinic, stopping 43 out of 44 shots (0.977), helping the RDC Queens pick up an important 2-1 road win and earning the Queens Player-of-the-Game. Over both games, the netminder from Prince Albert made 58 saves out of 59 shots (0.983).

The Queens have been playing well lately. In their past seven games, the RDC Queens have earned 10 of a possible 14 points in the standings.

Congratulations Karlee!
