It was an impressive day for second-year Jenica Swartz (Bachelor of Science Pre-Med) to cap off an already incredible 2022 year. Swartz would finish in fourth place in the 6 km race with a time of 23:24 at the 2022 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) National Cross-Country Championships in Medicine Hat.

Red Deer Polytechnic Athletics and the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) are pleased to recognize cross-country runners Jenica Swartz and Daniel Szucs as All-Conference Award recipients. Both runners were key to the success of the Kings and Queen’s Cross-Country team, helping their respective teams to finish in the top three at the ACAC Championships. This would give them the chance to compete at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association National Championships in Medicine Hat on November 11 and 12.

The Kings and Queens Cross-Country teams will be off to nationals after a very successful performance at the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference Championships (ACAC) in Edmonton hosted by Concordia University this afternoon.

Edmonton, AB – The Red Deer Polytechnic Cross Country Running team had another strong showing in its third conference competition of the 2022/2023 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) season. At Running Room Grand Prix #3, the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings earned top spot and the RDP Queens captured third.

The motivated Red Deer Polytechnic Cross Country Running team enter the 2022/2023 ACAC season with six returning student-athletes and seven newcomers.     "We have a great group of runners on the team this year," said Doug Spicer, RDP Cross Country Running Head Coach. "They are very young, but extremely talented. We expect big things from this group based on last year's success."    Red Deer's Ethan Duret, a second-year Bachelor of Commerce student, and Axsivier Lawrence, a third-year Business Administration General student, and Daniel Szucs, a fourth-year Bachelor of Business Administration General Management student, are the three returning members from last season's ACAC silver medal winning RDP Kings. Red Deer's Myah Cota, Justine Larson, Kammy Park and Lacombe's Jenica Swartz are back with the Queens after contributing to an ACAC bronze medal performance last year.

Red Deer Polytechnic Athletics has hired Doug Spicer to lead the RDP Cross Country Running and Indoor Track teams into the 2022/2023 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference season. In addition to Spicer’s high school track and field coaching experience, he has also coached youth with the Red Deer Titans Track and Field Club for eight years. Spicer is looking forward to joining Red Deer Polytechnic Athletics and continuing the legacy of excellence that previous coaches at the institution have established.
