After careful evaluation and deliberation, Red Deer College has decided to suspend the Golf program indefinitely. Tight budgetary constraints made the continued operation of the team difficult and unfeasible in light of several factors.

Queens lock up gold at golf national championships

As the best collegiate golfers from across Canada completed their final round at Desert Blume Golf Club, the Red Deer College Queens stood atop the leaderboard and were named the 2018 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women's Golf National Champions, receiving gold medals. The RDC Queens progressivley improved each day over the four days of competition, with the lowest two scores counting 149 on Friday. This was six strokes better than the second place Medicine Hat College Rattlers (155). Over four rounds, the RDC Queens (625) sealed top spot by 16 strokes over the Rattlers (641). The UBC Okanagan Heat claimed national bronze (666). The Kings finished in 9th as a group.

Queens increase lead as many RDC golfers improve on day three at nationals

The RDC Queens Golf team has been more than comfortable at Desert Blume Golf Club. On day three at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Golf National Championships, the Queens honed their game even more and grew their lead over the host Medicine Hat College Rattlers by another seven strokes, holding top spot. The Kings also improved and remain in 9th.

fter a 40-minute frost delay on day two at the 2018 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Golf National Championships, temperatures eventually rose to 22 degrees and there were many significant performances at Desert Blume Golf Club. The RDC Queens had another strong day on the course and impressively remain atop the leaderboard after the top two Queens collectively shaved off four strokes from Tuesday (160).

Queens sit in first at golf nationals after day one

The first round at the 2018 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Golf National Championships wrapped up Tuesday at Desert Blume Golf Club and the RDC Queens sit in top spot with a strong collective effort. The Kings sit in ninth spot with Darin Bertschi recording the lowest score. The Queens had a consistent performance on the course to kick off the national event. Shaye Leidenius led the way for the Queens after firing a 79, four strokes back of the leader Emily Romancew, of the John Abbott Islanders (75).

The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Golf Championships wrapped up Sunday and the RDC Golf Mixed team captured gold, the Queens earned silver and the Kings won bronze.

Day one is complete at the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Golf Championships, and Shaye Leidenius and Chase Broderson led the way for the Red Deer College (RDC) Queens & Kings at Alberta Springs Golf Resort.

With the final roster decisions on the RDC Queens & Kings Golf teams coming this weekend, Head Coach Scott Bergdahl likes the group that is starting to form. “The Queens look outstanding this year and the Kings will be a solid group of five,” says Bergdahl. “The student-athletes are excited and anxious to get the season started.” As the RDC Queens & Kings prepare for the North Regionals, September 15 – 16, at Lac La Biche Golf & Country Club, Bergdahl wants to work with the student-athletes on preparing beyond the physical aspect of the game.
