The final day at the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Golf South Regionals wrapped up at the Desert Blume Golf Club in Medicine Hat and the Red Deer College Golf team had several great performances. The RDC Kings earned 1st place as a group while the Queens finished in 3rd.

Cole Morrison shot a final round of 76 and finished in 2nd place among ACAC men with a weekend total of 145. The Red Deer golfer picked up 11 pars and 2 birdies on the day. Michael Harrison, from the University of Alberta (Augustana), completed the weekend in top spot with 143. Justin Loro shaved off 4 strokes from Saturday and finished the South Regionals in a tie for 4th with 148 (76 and 72). Logan Hill, Clayton Dunn and Ryan Skoreyko sat in a tie for 11th (150).

Shaye Leidenius had another good day on the course and shot an 80. The Kinesiology and Sport Studies student accumulated 10 pars and 1 birdie on the final day and finished with a 2-day total of 159 which placed her 2nd. Elizabeth Stewart, from MacEwan University, finished in 1st and only 1 stroke ahead of Leidenius. Bradie Ouellette-Pillman completed the weekend with a total of 200 (94 and 106) strokes while Paige Tichkowsky was 6 strokes behind with 206 (108 and 98). Tichkowsky incredibly improved by 10 strokes on the final day.

RDC Golf Head Coach Scott Bergdahl thought it was a solid weekend overall. "All-in-all it was a good weekend. The Kings had a strong day which was awesome to see. It is tough to play with a lead and it was a good learning day that we can use moving forward," said Bergdahl. "Shaye was feeling a bit under the weather today but Paige shot a personal best in competiton which was powerful."

As the ACAC Golf Championships approach, the RDC Golf team will focus on preparation this week. "With one week until the championships we want to have a solid week of practice. We will continue to follow the same process," said Bergdahl. "Many of the golfers have made strides and I feel 100% confident in the student-athletes."

The Red Deer College Golf team will compete at the ACAC Golf Championships on Saturday, Sept. 30 and Sunday, Oct. 1 at the Red Tail Landing Golf Club in Nisku. MacEwan University will host the event.
