Lac La Biche On the final day at the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Men's and Women's Golf North Regionals, several RDC student-athletes elevated their game and helped the Kings & Queens both finish in third spot.

Individually, Chloe Sies incredibly shot a 77, the lowest round among ACAC women. The first-year student-athlete from Melville, Saskatchewan, climbed the leaderboard from fourth into a tie for first, with a two-round total of 167. The Bachelor of Science student recorded 12 pars and one birdie on the final day. Becky Martin from Medicine Hat College fired an 83 on Sunday for a weekend total of 167 strokes, as well.

RDC's Stephanie Huising trimmed off 10 strokes for a Sunday round of 98 (T-12th) and total of 206. Bradie Ouellette-Pillman was one shot behind (207) for 14th and Paige Tichkowsky rounded out the top four Queens (209) in 15th. The Red Deer College Queens finished third as a group behind Concordia University and first place Medicine Hat College.

Chase Broderson scored a 79 on Sunday, shaving one stroke off from yesterday. The Business Administration student from Lacombe accumulated nine pars and two birdies on the final day for third (159) place among ACAC men. Michael Harrison from the University of Alberta Augustana (149) took top spot and Connor Beeston of Concordia University was three shots behind (152).

Also improving Sunday, Darin Bertschi recorded an 80 and tied for sixth (163) among ACAC male golfers. In 16th, Logan Hill shot an 87 for a two-round total of 173. Gaige Weseen and Landon Kletke tied for 20th with 178.

Over the weekend, the MacEwan University Griffins captured first, Concordia University placed second and the RDC Kings were close behind in third.

The Red Deer College Mixed Golf team (Chloe Sies, Paige Tichkowsky, Logan Hill, Gaige Weseen and Robert LaBuick) earned second overall in the mixed division, which will be a new ACAC medal event this year.

RDC Golf Head Coach Scott Bergdahl enjoyed some strong play Sunday. "Chloe Sies had a great day, shooting a 77 and finishing in a tie for first. Chase Broderson did very well and Darin Bertschi had a strong tournament, finishing in the top ten," says Bergdahl. "It will be awesome when we get Shaye Leidenius back. Down the stretch, it will be an exciting race for the Queens with Medicine Hat and Concordia University."

The tournament also helped Bergdahl and the student-athletes pinpoint areas of their games to polish. "We still have a lot of work to do," says Bergdahl. "We identified some weaknesses and will work on those this week as we prepare for the South Regional at Mill Woods Golf Course."

Next, the RDC Queens & Kings Golf teams will compete at the South Regional, Saturday, September 22 and Sunday, September 23.
