Queens remain on top after day two at Desert Blume Golf Club

Medicine Hat, AB - After a 40-minute frost delay on day two at the 2018 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Golf National Championships, temperatures eventually rose to 22 degrees and there were many significant performances at Desert Blume Golf Club. The RDC Queens had another strong day on the course and impressively remain atop the leaderboard after the top two Queens collectively shaved off four strokes from Tuesday (160). 

RDC's Shaye Leidenius fired another 79 and individually shares third spot (158) with Alyssa Stoddart of the Fanshawe Falcons. Leidenius, a third-year collegiate golfer from Ponoka, totaled 12 pars, one birdie and two bogeys. Chloe Sies, of the Queens, improved by six strokes with an 81, and sits in 8th (168).

Next, teammate Bradie Ouellette-Pillman recorded an 84 on Wednesday and is in 9th (169).

The host Medicine Hat College Rattlers sit three strokes (327) back of the RDC Queens (164 + 160 = 324).

Emily Romencew shot another 75 for a two round total of 150. The member of the John Abbott Islanders has a six stroke lead over second place Becky Martin (156) from the Medicine Hat College Rattlers.

The Red Deer College Kings find themselves in 9th after two days. On Wednesday, the top four Kings collectively shot 321 and have a two round total of 640. Darin Bertschi has golfed consistently, shooting a 77 for a total of 155 over both rounds, sharing 29th. Bertschi, an Open Studies student, improved as the day progressed. The golfer from Lethbridge recorded six pars and three bogeys on the front nine (40). On the back nine, he accumulated five pars, one birdie and three bogeys (37). All-Canadian Chase Broderson golfed very well, improving by six strokes with a 75, totaling 156 (T-33rd). Gaige Weseen (81 + 82 = 163), Landon Kletke (83 + 87 = 170) and Logan Hill (79 + 95 = 174) rounded out the Kings' performances on Wednesday.

Boomerang d'Andre-Larendeau and the Humber Hawks share top spot (576) among the men's teams. Connor Watt, of the Hawks, was four under par on Wednesday with a 68 and sits at the top of the men's leaderboard (71 + 68 = 139).

Day three will continue on Thursday at Desert Blume Golf Club and the national championships will be complete on Friday.
