Lac La Biche - After the first day at the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Men's and Women's Golf North Regionals, the RDC Kings sit in third spot and the Queens are in fourth.

Saturday, Chase Broderson was the Kings top golfer after firing an 80. The Business Administration student from Lacombe racked up 12 pars and one birdie for seventh spot. RDC's Darin Bertschi (83) finished the day tied for ninth. Logan Hill (86) will head into Sunday's round tied for 16th and Landon Kletke (89) rounded out the top four Kings. Connor Beeston, of Concordia University, shot a 74, good for first place.

The MacEwan University Griffins (327) lead the men's teams. The Concordia University Thunder (333) trail by only six strokes and the RDC Kings (338) complete the top three.

After the opening round, the Queens (192) are only one stroke behind the third place MacEwan University Griffins (191). Medicine Hat College (167) is in top spot among female teams and Concordia University of Edmonton (188) is collectively 21 shots behind.

Chloe Sies led the way for the Queens on day one, shooting an opening round of 90. The Bachelor of Science student collected four pars and two birdies. Medicine Hat College Rattlers, Sierra Zukowski (83) and Becky Martin (84) sit atop the ACAC women's leaderboard. RDC's Bradie Ouellette-Pillman (102 strokes - 12th), Paige Tichkowksy (107 - 14th) and Stephanie Huising (108 - 15th) round out the top four Queens. Due to a previous committment, Shaye Leidenius is unable to attend the North Regional.

Red Deer College Golf Head Coach Scott Bergdahl noted the tough conditions on the opening day. "It was cold, rainy and breezy today which made it difficult," says Bergdahl. "Overall, the golfers weren't happy with their performances but Chloe showed she is a true competitor in her first ACAC Golf tournament, and I thought that Chase played a really good game today."

Bergdahl sees this team progressing its game Sunday, and throughout the season. "Tonight, we will decompress and meet. Little details of preparation and play are all part of pieces to the puzzle that can contribute to the success of the day," says Bergdahl. "One stroke in college golf can have a massive difference, but it is a process. We will continue to work hard towards our common goal. I expect that this group will do even better things moving forward throughout the season considering the dedicated individuals that they are."

Day two will continue Sunday at Lac La Biche Golf & Country Club.
