The Kings and Queens successful at the last Grand Prix of the season

Calgary, AB, October 16 – The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings and Queens Cross-Country team had a well-rounded outing at the last Grand Prix before conference championships on October 29.

The Kings come into the Running Room Grand Prix #4 after placing first at the last race in Edmonton on October 1. On the other hand, the Queens took home a bronze medal.

Flash forward to the race hosted by St. Mary's University in Calgary, the Kings placed second with some great individual performances and steady improvement.

For the second grand prix in a row, Daniel Szucs led the Kings with a seventh place finish with a time of 26:32. Ethan Duret would come in seven places after Szucs with a time of 27:58. Ben House finished 16th with a time of 28:01.

For the Queens, they were missing a couple of players but still managed to place third overall for the second race in a row. Jenica Swartz was one of the racers that was missing as she was playing soccer in Lethbridge. Justine Larson was the highest placed Queens runner with a time of 25:56 which gave her 13th spot in the 6km race. The next Queens runner to cross the finish line was Melissa Ray in 18th with a time of 26:46. Emily Barritt (29:02, 25th) and Kammy Park (29:27, 27th) were the last Queens to finish the race.

They will now prepare for Alberta Colleges Athletics Association (ACAC) Championships in Edmonton on October 29, which will be the final race of the ACAC season.
