Greenshields helps lift Queens over Lions on the road

Calgary, AB – The Red Deer College Queens Volleyball team continues to roll.

The Queens and Ambrose University Lions split the first two sets (25-21, 20-25) and then the visitors stepped up their game to another level. The RDC Queens captured the next two sets (25-18 and 25-14) and picked up their 14th consecutive victory.

Queens Player-of-the-Game Alexandria Greenshields totaled seven kills, five stuff blocks, four digs and two aces. The second-year middle contributed 14 points over four sets.

Emma Holmes had seven kills and five of the Queens' 11 aces. Jaiden Ferguson and Tess Pearman fired five kills each.

Kelly Heinemann (eight assists) and Emma Letkeman (21 assists) shared the setter duties.

Libero Kaylee Domoney had ten digs and one assist.

Lions libero Journey Flewell contributed 16 digs and one assist, and was recognized as the Lions top player.

With the victory, the second seed RDC Queens (14-2) increased their lead to eight points in the south standings over the third place Ambrose University Lions (10-8).

The Queens, who were recently ranked eighth in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), will look to continue their winning ways next weekend against the SAIT Trojans (6-14).

The home-and-home series will begin in Calgary on Friday, Jan. 31 at 6:00 pm. Then 24 hours later the two teams will meet at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre.
