RDC Athlete of the Week for March 2, 2020

Emma Holmes had a very impressive performance at the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Women’s Volleyball Championship in Medicine Hat. The five-foot-ten outside hitter played a pivotal role in the RDC Queens earning silver. In the final against the Briercrest College Clippers, Emma helped the Queens push the Clippers to five sets (25-21, 20-25, 25-20, 23-25 and 12-15). In the match, the Bachelor of Kinesiology student was strong offensively and defensively, totaling 13 kills, 20 digs, two blocks, one ace and one assist. Emma was also recognized as an ACAC Championship Tournament All-Star after three strong matches.

The Queens opened the weekend with a sweep over the Lakeland College Rustlers (25-18, 25-22 and 25-16). The second-year contributed 11 kills and 13 digs, while swinging for a 0.375 hitting percentage. Then in the semi-final, the Red Deer College Queens downed the University of Alberta Augustana Vikings in straight sets (25-22, 25-21 and 25-22). Once again, Emma was a positive factor, contributing a game-high 14 kills, nine digs, four blocks and an assist. She was named the Queens Player-of-the-Game.

Emma and the Red Deer College Queens will play in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women’s Volleyball National Championship from March 12-14 in Quebec City. The Cégep Garneau Elans are the hosts.
