Holmes and Queens prey on Lions in Calgary

Calgary, AB - When something works, most people don't deviate from it. That was the case Friday evening between the Red Deer College Queens and Ambrose University Lions. Queens setter Emma Letkeman connected with outside hitter Emma Holmes for 29 kills and the visitors downed the Lions in five sets (23-25, 27-25, 21-25, 25-23 and 15-12). It was the first loss for the Lions in the early stages of the season.

Emma Letkeman contributed 56 assists, three stuff blocks, three digs and two aces.

In addition to 29 kills, Holmes added five digs, two assists and one stuff block, earning Queens Player-of-the-Game. Jade Van Dyke and Sydney Rix had eight kills each. Tess Pearman accumulated seven.

Ambrose's Julia Kemper led her team's offence with 13 kills and she also added 15 digs.

Vanessa Boone received the honour as the Lions top player, totaling 11 kills, eight digs, four stuffs, one assist and one ace.

On Saturday, the RDC Queens (1-2) will entertain the Lions (3-1) at 6:00 p.m. at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre.
