Kings and Queens finish strong at the first Grand Prix of the season

Edmonton, January 27, 2024 - It was a very successful weekend for the Kings and Queens Indoor Track teams in their 2024 season debut. Loami Rautenbach (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) started the day off on a winning note as she was the fastest runner in the 300m dash with a time of just over 44 seconds.

In the 3000m, Justine Larson (Bachelor of Education) and Georgia Sawchuk (Bachelor of Science in Psychology) finished right after each other in second and third. In the men's race, Ben House (Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences) finished in second while Ben Higham (Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences) came in third to round out the podium.

In the 4x200m relay, the Queens took home the top spot with a time of 1:54 which was six seconds faster than the second-place Lethbridge College Kodiaks.

The 60m sprint made its debut on the ACAC circuit with Rautenbach finishing the race in second place, just a tenth of a second slower than the first place runner. 

Larson took home her second place of the day in the 1500m with a time of 5:36. On the men's side, the Kings swept the podium with House finishing in first, Higham in second and Jordan Coen (Bachelor of Kinesiology) in third with the three runners all separated by 10 seconds.

The Queens would sweep the relay races after taking home first place in the 4x400m, 17 seconds ahead of the second-place Kodiaks. The Kings were able to conclude their day by finishing in third place in this relay with a time of 3:53.

The next Running Room Grand Prix will take place on home turf with the Red Deer Polytechnic hosting the Indoor Track meet on February 10.
