RDP Athlete of the Week for October 23, 2023

It was a big weekend for forward Holden Knights and the Kings as they picked up their first two wins of the season against the Concordia University Thunder.

On Friday evening in Edmonton, the Kings needed a late goal in the third period and a shootout to pick up their first win of the season as they defeated the Thunder 5-4. Knights was held scoreless for his second consecutive game.

But he bounced back on Saturday in front of the home crowd with two goals which happen to be his first two points this season. Part of a five-goal second period, Knights would find the back of the net 11 minutes in to give RDP a 3-2 lead. But after the Thunder tied it up, the Kings would answer back with a shorthanded goal to end the period leading 4-3.

In the third period, Knights would add an insurance marker for his team which was much needed and was the game-winner in the 5-4 Kings win.

Knights was presented with the player of the game as he finished the night with a two-goal performance. He is now tied with four other players from the Polytechnic for the team lead in goals. The Kings will be back in action this weekend as they host the Portage College Voyageurs for two games in Red Deer.
