Lethbridge, September 30, 2023 – The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings and Queens continued their dominance in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Running Room Grand Prix events.

The Queens were able to run away with a first place finish in the team event as they had a 20-point difference between them and the Medicine Hat Rattlers who finished in second place.

The women were once again led by Justine Larson (Bachelor of Education) who crossed the finish line in fourth place with a time of 26:19. The Queens would occupy sixth through ninth with Myah Cota (Bachelor of Science in Nursing), Georgia Sawchuk (Bachelor of Science in Psychology), Loami Rautenbach and Emily Barritt (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) crossing the finish line one after another with times ranging from 26:57 to 27:22.

Ben House (Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences) was once again the first Kings runner to cross the finish line in fifth overall with a time of 28:16 in the 8km event. House just beat out his teammate Jordan Coen (Open Studies) by five seconds as Coen came in sixth place.

Head Coach Douglas Spicer said Coen's sixth-place finish put the top runners on notice that he's ready to challenge for a top-five position at the ACAC Championships which will be held on the same course as today on October 28th.

The next Kings student-athlete to complete the race was Dan Szucs (Bachelor of Business Administration) who finished in eighth place overall with a time of 29:02.

With these finishes in the top 10, the Kings walked away with 28 points and second place while the SAIT Trojans, who had a full team for the first time this season, came in first with 16.

The next Grand Prix will be held in Camrose on October 14th with the hosts being the University of Alberta-Augustana Viking.
