RDP Athlete of the Week for October 16, 2023

After scoring two goals in one match, striker Anessa Harrod is the Queens Athlete of the Week. Going into the match on Sunday against Olds College Broncos, the Queens Soccer team really needed a win to increase their odds of moving on to the conference championship that will be taking place in a week.

Harrod took this upon herself and opened the scoring in the 19^th minute which ended up being the game-winning goal in the 3-0 victory against the Broncos. But the striker from Lacombe was not done there as she would score her second of the game seven minutes later after a beautiful through ball from teammate Paige Kalbfleisch. Coming into the weekend, Harrod had three goals in her rookie season and now leads the Queens in goals with a total of five.

With strikers Grace Smith and Quinn Daku going down a couple of weekends ago and still out with lingering injuries, Harrod was called upon by Head Coach Mahziar Peyrow to increase her workload and become a starter. She has picked up her game and ran with it since the Lacombe native was given the opportunity to start. Peyrow could not be more pleased from what he has seen from her in the last couple of weeks.

Harrod and the Queens will look to end their season on a winning note as they head down to Calgary to take on the Ambrose University Lions in the final regular season match.
