Queens split weekend series with Clippers, Szymanek records double-double

Red Deer, AB – An opponent was finally able to thwart the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens' road winning streak at four.

The Briercrest College Clippers jumped out to a lead and they didn't relent. The home team picked up a 69-56 win.

The Clippers held an eight point edge at the half (33-25).

RDP's Amy Szymanek had nine points at the break. Briercrest's Dori Sunderland knocked down 11.

The home team added 36 in the latter half. The Queens responded with 31 and the Clippers picked up the decision.

Szymanek had another strong game, recording 19 points and 10 rebounds.

Queens Player of the Game Sophie Melin contributed 10 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Surrey's Heena Sidhu scored 13 and Red Deer's Janai Hubert added six for the Polytechnic.

Hope Jordens was named the Clippers top performer, accumulating 22 rebounds, 10 points, six assists and a steal. Maddie Beattlie led the home team with 23 points.

The Queens (4-4) and SAIT Trojans (7-3) will meet in Calgary on Friday, February 4 at 6 pm.
