Queens extend road win streak to four with victory in Saskatchewan

Caronport, SK – The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens continue to play a solid brand of basketball on the road.

Eight Queens recorded points en route to an 84-75 victory, their fourth away from Red Deer.

In Ed Major's first conference game as Queens Basketball Interim Head Coach, the visitors took control of the opening half (43-41).

Stauffer's Amy Szymanek sparked the Polytechnic's offence with 13 points over two quarters. Maddie Beattie led the home team with 15 points.

The Polytechnic Queens kept their foot on the gas in the third quarter, outscoring Briercrest College by 10 (25-15). The Clippers tried to narrow the Queens' lead in the fourth (19-16), but they couldn't fully close the gap.

Red Deer's Keanna Richards played a tremendous second half, draining 12 of her 16 points.

With a solid team effort, the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens earned the road decision.

Heena Sidhu had 14 points and Sophie Melin chipped in with 13 for the Polytechnic.

Maddie Beattie led the home team with 25 points. 

The Queens were efficient on their three-point attempts, hitting five-of-12 from long range (41.7%). United Kingdom's Lauren France had two.

The Clippers attempted 23 from beyond the arc, connecting on six (26.1%). Dori Sunderland went three-of-four.

Szymanek was named the Queens Player of the Game, totaling 21 points, 13 rebounds, five steals and two assists. Sunderland earned the award for the Clippers, contributing 22 points, five assists, four rebounds and two steals. 

The Queens (4-3) and Clippers (0-9) will meet on Saturday, January 29 in Saskatchewan at 1 pm in a rematch.
