Szymanek's double-double sparks Queens to road win over Rattlers

Medicine Hat, AB - The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens picked up their third consecutive victory on the road. 

Winning three of four quarters, the Queens earned a 63-55 decision over the Medicine Hat College Rattlers.

RDP held a 38-31 edge at the half. Stauffer's Amy Szymanek led the Queens with 15 points at the break, hitting five-of-10 shots from the field. Jasmine Gardner had 11 for the Rattlers and shot 40 per cent from the field. 

In a close second half, the Queens outscored the Rattlers 25-24 and wrapped up the win. 

Queens Player of the Game Amy Szymanek had 26 points and 11 of her team's 52 rebounds. The Bachelor of Education Middle School student added four steals, three blocks and two assists over 35 minutes. Sophie Melin hit two of the Queens' five three-pointers and finished with 15 points, nine boards, two assists and two steals.

Katelyn Rozdeba was the Player of the Game for the Rattlers, accumulating 15 points and 22 rebounds. Jasmine Gardiner added 13 points for the home team. 

The RDP Queens connected on 31.6 per cent of their field goal attempts. The Rattlers were 29.4 per cent efficient from the field. 

The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens (3-2) will challenge the Rattlers (0-3) at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre on Sunday, November 28 at 4 pm.
