Sidhu and Queens rally past Broncos in fourth quarter, extend road record to 2-0

Olds, AB - The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens have been more than comfortable playing on the road. 

Using some late game heroics in Olds, the Queens erased a five point deficit with under two minutes remaining and earned a 74-69 victory for their second consecutive win away from Red Deer. Their first win of the season came in Lethbridge. 

The visitors had a bit of a slow start and trailed Olds College 34-22 at the half.

Over two quarters, Alli Taylor led the Broncos with 11 points. Third-year Sophie Melin scored five points for the Queens.

The Red Deer Polytechnic offence hit another stratosphere in the latter half. Building on an impressive 30 point showing in the third quarter, the Queens added another 22 points in the final stanza and sealed a 74-69 win. 

Amy Szymanek had 16 of her 20 points in the second half.

The RDP Queens trailed 64-69 late in the fourth quarter and then four student-athletes helped will their squad into the win column. Field goals from Amy Szymanek and Sophie Melin along with a pair of three-pointers from Lauren France and Heena Sidhu resulted in the Queens capping off their second win on a 10-0 run. 

Stockholm's Sophie Melin and United Kingdom's Lauren France contributed 15 points each. 

Third-year guard Heena Sidhu was named the Queens Player of the Game. The Bachelor of Arts Political Science student totaled 11 points, seven rebounds, five assists, one steal and one block over 38 minutes. 

Broncos Player of the Game Mackenzie Hooson led her team with 25 points. She added seven rebounds and two assists. 

Olds College held an eight rebound edge (43-35).

The RDP Queens were efficient from the free-throw line (76.9%). Olds College hit half of its attempts (four-of-eight).

On Friday, November 26, the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens (2-2) will play the Rattlers (0-2) in Medicine Hat at 8 pm.
