Lethbridge, AB - When the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens faced the Lethbridge College Kodiaks on Friday in their home opener, they relied heavily on Amy Szymanek and Sophie Melin and didn't have a consistent performance.

While Szymanek and Melin still made contributions in Sunday's rematch on the road, the Queens played with more consistency and had three different players hit double digits in points. The RDP Queens won three of the four quarters and earned a 75-68 victory.

"I am really proud of how the Queens executed the adjustments that I made for today's game," said Mandy Botham, Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Basketball Head Coach. "It was also the most consistent game that we've played so far."

The visitors hit the court with purpose, outscoring the Kodiaks 44-36 over the opening half. Five-foot-10 Lauren France was one of the RDP catalysts, scoring 15 points by the break. First-year Meja Lundberg sank 11 points in the second quarter alone.

Lundberg (10) made two out of three free-throws

The Queens outscored the Kodiaks 14-12 in the third quarter. Lethbridge College made a push in the last quarter (20-17), but the Queens stood firm.

"We kept our composure when it got close in the fourth quarter to pull out the win," said Botham.

Lauren France led the way for the Polytechnic with 25 points. The Bachelor of Arts Psychology student added six rebounds and one steal over 33 minutes. She shot well, which included a string of five-of-10 from beyond the three-point arc. Meja Lundberg finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

Sidhu (14)

Heena Sidhu had 12 points. Sophie Melin contribued nine points, six assists, six rebounds and one steal. Amy Szymanek accumulated 12 rebounds, seven points, and six assists.

Courtney Deemter led the Kodiaks with 18 points. Montana Berezay and Matlin Jacobs had 13 points each.

The Kodiaks had a slight edge on the boards (44-40).

On Friday, November 19, the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens (1-1) will compete against the Olds College Broncos (0-2) at 8 pm at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre.
