Dominant second half helps Queens cage Lions in Calgary

Calgary, AB – The Red Deer College Queens saved their best for last. Outscoring the Ambrose University Lions by 25 points in the second half, the Queens earned a 77-51 road victory.
The RDC Queens jumped out to a 16-13 lead in the first quarter. The home team grabbed a two point edge (16-14) over the next ten minutes and the Queens were up 30-29 at the break.
Then the Red Deer College offence kicked into another gear. The visitors knocked down 47 points in the final half and solidified an important 77-51 road victory.
Britney Peters led the Queens' charge with 18 points and ten boards. The Queens Player-of-the-Game Harneet Sidhu contributed 16 points, nine assists, four steals and four rebounds. Stockholm's Sophie Melin added 13 points and Lauren Cardinal had 11.
Melin (12) hit six-of-nine from the field
Sarah Burnell received the top performer award for the Lions, totaling 13 points, 12 rebounds and five steals.
The RDC Queens had a two rebound edge (49-47).
The Queens improve to 18 points and remain in fifth.
The Kodiaks (11-9) sit in third with 22 points, but have played two more games. The Medicine Hat College Rattlers (10-10) are fourth and have a spot locked up in the playoffs as hosts of the championship.
The Queens (9-9) will host the Lions (3-15) on Saturday at 6:00 pm at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre.
