Queens push Trojans to limit, fall by two points

Calgary, AB - Only two points were the difference Friday evening. SAIT's Anegor Wol hit the game-winning basket with only 15 ticks left on the clock, propelling the home team to a 69-67 win over the RDC Queens.

Nothing separated the squads after 20 minutes. With 15 points in the first and second quarters, the Queens and Trojans were knotted up 30-30.

Amy Szymanek led the Queens' offence with 10 points at the break. She connected on four out of eight from the field, which included a pair of three-pointers.

Sirache Ubaldo powered the Trojans with 12 points. Ubaldo sank four-of-six of her field goal attempts.

Over two quarters, the visitors shot 29.4 per cent from the field. The Trojans replied with 30.8.

Both offences kicked into another gear in the third quarter. RDC knocked down 21 points and SAIT responded with 20. The home team outscored the Queens 19-16 in the fourth, sealing a very close 69-67 decision.

Harneet Sidhu was named the Queens top performer. In 36 minutes, the second-year Justice Studies student totaled 15 points, four rebounds and one steal. 

Former Queen Lauren Bailey was recognized for the Trojans. Bailey accumulated 19 points, seven rebounds, five assists and one steal. 

RDC's Sandra Garcia-Bernal had 11 points and 12 rebounds. Sophie Melin and Amy Szymanek dropped 13 points each.

The Trojans were slightly more efficient from the field (36.8-31.9%) and held an advantage on the boards (44-36).

The Queens trail the final playoff spot in the south by only four points. 

The RDC Queens (7-9) will host the SAIT Trojans (4-11) on Saturday at 6:00 pm.
