Lethbridge, AB - Once again, the Red Deer College Queens really found their scoring groove in the second quarter. In two consecutive road games, the RDC Queens capitalized on a 25 point outburst in the frame and defeated the Lethbridge College Kodiaks, a team they're chasing in the south standings. While the Kodiaks pressed late, the visitors remained composed and hit some clutch late shots, solidifying an impressive 79-76 victory.

In Saturday afternoon's rematch, the Queens led by 16 (42-26) at the break. Lethbridge College chipped away at that deficit, which included 34 points in the fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough. As the clock expired, the RDC Queens celebrated a three point road win.

RDC's Sandra Garcia-Bernal recorded a double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds.

Britney Peters finished with 17 points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals, and was named the Queens Player-of-the-Game. The Bachelor of Education Elementary student went seven-for-13 from the field and three-of-five from the free-throw line in 31 minutes. She hit a timely bucket and free-throw late in the game.

Lauren Cardinal and Harneet Sidhu had 16 points each.

Lethbridge College's Natlie Hoyt contributed 15 points, four rebounds and four assists, and was selected as the Kodiaks top player. Matlin Murray led the home team with 19 points.

The Queens were stronger on the boards (41-28).

With four weekend points, the Queens have quickly climbed right back into the postseason conversation. Third place Lethbridge College (8-7) has played two more games than RDC (6-7), but only leads by four points. Briercrest College (7-6) and Medicine Hat College (7-6) currently share fourth with 14 points. The Queens have 12.

The Rattlers will host the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Women's Basketball Championship from March 5 to 7, so they will be in the playoffs.

Next weekend, the Red Deer College Queens (6-7) will host the Medicine Hat College Rattlers (7-6) in a pair of games. On Friday, Jan. 31, the two teams will meet at 6:00 pm and then on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
