Greves and Kings cage Kodiaks, enter playoffs with momentum

Lethbridge, AB – The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings are entering the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) playoffs on a winning note.

The RDP Kings defeated the Lethbridge College Kodiaks in four sets (25-22, 25-14, 20-25 and 25-18), capturing their past two regular season matches.

After missing several key student-athletes throughout Winter 2022 Term, the Kings have recently regained positive health and look like serious playoff contenders.

Kings Player of the Game Maddux Greves was excellent once again. The six-foot-three setter contributed 52 assists, eight digs, six kills and two of the team's five service aces.

Greves was in a rhythm, connecting with outside hitters Nicholas Possingham (14 kills), Brett Lower (13 kills) and Reece Lehman (11 kills). Greves also found middles Cody Boulding (nine kills) and Dillon Gauci (seven kills). Libero Jonathan (JJ) Graham was solid defensively, recording 16 digs. 

Kodiaks Player of the Match Nolan Moes had 13 kills, eight digs, three of his squad's five aces and an assist. Jackson Gaerhring added six kills. 

The first place Red Deer Polytechnic Kings (12-4) have completed their regular season. Several teams have matches remaining as the standings are finalized before the postseason.

ACAC Championship Format

The top two ranked teams in each division will receive a bye to the divisional semi-final game. The winner of the divisional semi-finals will be played to determine a first and second place team in each division.

These top teams from each division will crossover for the ACAC Final Four Championship, South 2 vs North 1 and N2 vs S1. All games will be played at one institution.

  • Game 3: Division Semi-final - Winner Game 1 vs #2 (ranked division #2)

ACAC Final Four Championship – March 11 and 12, 2022

  • Game 5: South Division #2 vs North Division #1
  • Game 6: North Division #2 vs South Division #1
  • Bronze: Loser Game 5 vs Loser Game 6
  • Gold: Winner Game 5 vs Winner Game 6

The Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men's Volleyball National Championship will be held from March 24 to 27 in Quebec, Quebec. Cegep Limilou will host the event at Limoilou's Sports Complex.
