Hills and Kings sweep Lions on the road

Calgary, AB - The Red Deer College Kings wanted to polish up a few areas of their game heading into Saturday's rematch against the Ambrose University Lions, and they showed progression from Friday.

The Kings increased their hitting efficiency from 23 per cent to 44.4 and swept the Lions (25-20, 25-20 and 25-16) in straight sets.

Carter Hills led the RDC offence with 11 kills and was named the Kings top performer. 

Outside hitter Patrik Toze pounded eight kills and two of the Kings' three aces. The team committed six few service errors than on Friday, but still finished with 15.

Six-foot-eight middle Dillon Gauci was strong at the net, racking up four of the ten RDC stuff blocks. Outside hitter Shae McIntyre, a Bachelor of Education Secondary student, chipped in with seven kills.

Lions Player-of-the-Game Carter McLenahan totaled eight digs, one assist and one dig. Stephen Jones led the Ambrose offence with six kills.

The Kings (12-4) share third spot in the south with the Briercrest College Clippers (12-6), although the Kings have two games in hand. Lethbridge College (13-3) is only two points ahead in second. SAIT (16-4) leads the pack, but has also played 20 matches.

The Red Deer College Kings, who were recently ranked eighth in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), will face the south leading SAIT Trojans on Friday, Jan. 31 in Calgary at 8:00 pm. Then on Saturday, the two teams will battle at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre.
