Women's Soccer – Queens 3 at Olds College Broncos 0

In an almost must-win scenario for the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens, a first-year student-athlete teared up the Richardson Pioneer field in Olds as she scored two goals to help her team to a victory over the Olds College Broncos.

Heading into the match on this Sunday afternoon, striker Anessa Harrod (Open Studies) had three goals in her first ACAC season.

She would open up the scoring in the 19th minute, which ultimately ended up being the game-winning goal. But seven minutes later, Harrod would strike again for her fifth on the season to put the Queens up 2-0 very early.

At the half, the score remained 2-0.

The Queens would add one in the second half from midfielder Erica Navarro (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) to make it a final score of 3-0 which happens to be their first win since RDP defeated the University of Alberta-Augustana Vikings, two weeks ago.

Striker Paige Kalbfleisch (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) also had a notable performance picking up two assists on the day after she was named the player of the match for her hard work and effort on the pitch in yesterdays game.

Goalkeeper Abby Kotyk (Bachelor of Kinesiology) stopped all nine shots she faced for her fourth clean sheet of the season.

The player of the game went to defender Krya Remekie (Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences) for shutting down the Broncos top striker.

In their final regular season match, which will take place next Saturday, the Polytechnic will head down to Calgary to take on the struggling Ambrose University Lions. They will look to end their season on a high to guarantee them a spot in the conference championship which will take place at the Edmonton Soccer Drome from October 26-28.

Men's Soccer – Kings 1 at Olds College Broncos 1

The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings have now clinched a spot in the conference championship after their draw with the Olds College Broncos on Sunday afternoon.

It did not take long for the Kings to get on the scoreboard with midfielder Ajdin Sarcevic (Business Administration) scoring in the fifth minute to give his team the very early lead.

At the half, the Kings continued to lead the Broncos 1-0.

But it took the Broncos seven minutes into the second half to find the equalizer off a free kick from Thomson Isreal-Welemongar.

The two teams would battle hard in the second half as they both attempted to take the lead but ultimately, the match would end in a 1-1 draw.

This would end the Kings three match winning streak but would extend their undefeated streak to four consecutive matches. They now have earned points in five of their last six matches after just receiving one in their first three games of the season.

The Kings awarded centre-back Adan Sanchez the player of the game honour.

With this tie, the Kings now sit tied for second place with the Lethbridge College Kodiaks. But the Polytechnic has the tiebreaker with a higher goals-for-goals-against ratio.

RDP will head down to Calgary to take on the Ambrose University Lions next Saturday at 2 pm in their final regular season game. A win will increase their chances of finishing in second place in the South Division.
