Smith and Kings rout Voyageurs by eight

Lac La Biche, AB - Thirteen Red Deer College Kings recorded points and eight players had multiple points, as they rolled over the host Portage College Voyageurs 9-1. 

The Kings exploded for four goals in the first period on Demaine Wray. After Jacob Wozney opened the scoring shorthanded at 8:52 of the opening frame, Kyle Salaway, Ryley Smith and Tyrell Mappin put the Kings ahead 4-0.

In the second period, Dylan Thudium connected on the power play at 7:09. Just over two minutes later, Portage College's Jacob Vance finally got a puck past Troy Trombley, but that would be the only one Saturday afternoon. Then Lynnden Pastachak and Kyle Salaway responded, giving the Kings a 7-1 lead after 40 minutes.

Ryley Smith and Lynnden Pastachak tacked on a goal each in the third, helping the Kings convincingly earn a 9-1 road victory. Over the two-game set, the Kings outscored the Voyageurs 17-2.

Troy Trombley, a Management Certificate student from Sherwood Park, stopped 17 out of 18 shots (0.944).

Parker Smyth, Mathieu Lapointe and Tyler Podgorenko had two assists each.

Huxley, Alberta's Ryley Smith was selected as the Kings Player-of-the-Game, contributing a pair of goals and one assist. Jordan Picard was recognized as the Voyageurs' top player, recording an assist.

The Red Deer College Kings (15-7-1-1) earned four of a possible four points in the standings this past weekend and share third spot with the SAIT Trojans (16-6-0-0), with more games on tap Saturday evening. Both teams have 32 points. The MacEwan University Griffins (16-5-1-0) sit in second with 33 points, five points behind the NAIT Oooks (19-6-0-0).

The RDC Kings have three regular season games remaining. Next, they will host the MacEwan University Griffins on Friday, February 22 at the NexSource Centre in Sylvan Lake. The puck will drop at 1:30 p.m.
