Kings push in fourth quarter but can't topple first place Kodiaks

Lethbridge, AB - The RDC Kings saved their best for last, but unfortunately couldn't overtake the Lethbridge College Kodiaks Saturday afternoon. 

A 10-0 run to start the game helped the Kodiaks take an 18 point edge into the break (46-28). The Kings outscored the home team 55-51 in the latter half. This included 32 points in the fourth quarter, but Lethbridge College picked up a 97-83 decision, moving to 15-0 on the season. 

Fifth-year guard Spencer Klassen scored 22 points. Tyronn King, a Legal Assistant student, contributed 18. 

Kings Player-of-the-Game Ramiro Martinez Quintanilla Jimenez totaled 16 points, six rebounds, three assists and one steal in 27 minutes.

Kevin Szymanek had ten of the Kings' 45 rebounds.

Chris Thomson was named the Kodiaks top performer. He stacked up 17 points and nine of the Kodiaks' 39 rebounds. 

The visitors shot 38 per cent from the field, 40 from beyond the arc and 75 from the free-throw line.

Lethbridge College replied with 47.1 per cent, 43.3 and 71.4.

The RDC Kings (6-7) share fourth place in the south with the St. Mary's University Lightning (6-9) and Ambrose University Lions (6-6). All three squads have 12 points. The top four teams in each division will qualify for the playoffs. 

 

The RDC Kings (6-7) will tip-off against the Medicine Hat College Rattlers (2-11) on Friday, Jan. 31 at 8:00 pm at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre. The two teams will also meet on Saturday at 3:00 pm.
