Kings earn first, Queens second at Grand Prix #4

Vermilion, AB - The Red Deer College Cross Country Running team had another strong performance at Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Running Room Grand Prix #4, hosted by Lakeland College.

The Red Deer College Kings impressively captured top spot as a team while the Queens claimed second overall among competing ACAC schools.

RDC's Jill Stewart (24:32), an Occupational & Physical Therapist student, had another great race and completed the 6 km course in second place just behind Sophia Nowicki (24:15) of Lethbridge College. Rebecca Johnson (24:50) from St. Mary's University placed third.

Three other members of the Queens placed in the top 15. RDC's Shaelyn Moltzahn (26:34) placed 7th overall. Shayla Sklaruk (26:35) was only one second behind in 8th and Caitlyn Debree (27:37) placed 15th.

Matthew Hope continued to show that he is a contender among ACAC male runners. Hope (26:44) had another strong race and placed second, only eight seconds behind Leonard Chesoo (26:36) of Concordia University. Jacques Saayman (28:04) from SAIT placed third.

Daniel Szucs (29:36) finished 8th overall. Stephen Rowley (30:08) placed 10th and Cooper Cheshire (30:22) was 12th.

After the first-place Kings, the SAIT Trojans were next, followed by the Grande Prairie Regional College Wolves.

In the women's division, Lethbridge College took first and Concordia University of Edmonton placed third.

The RDC Cross Country Running team will compete at Running Room Grand Prix #5, Saturday, October 13, in Camrose. The University of Alberta Augustana Vikings will host the event.
