Calgary, AB – The first place Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Soccer team (7-1-0) had its offence firing on all cylinders against the Ambrose University Lions (0-9-0) Friday night in Calgary.

The Queens received six goals from Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Women's Soccer leading goal scorer Sein Furuyama, four markers from Estel Quinteros, along with tallies from Alisha Coules, Paige Kalbfleisch, Jenica Swartz and Lexi Kowalchuk, blanking the Lions 16-0.

It was the Queens' seventh consecutive victory, including a perfect 4-0 record on the road.

Japan's Furuyama began the game with a natural hat trick within the opening 28 minutes.

Then Queens captain Alisha Coules, who was named the Red Deer Polytechnic, ACAC and Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Athlete of the Week, scored back-to-back markers in the 30th and 40th minutes. Before the end of the half, Jenica Swartz, a Bachelor of Science Pre-Professional – Medicine student from Lacombe, beat Lions goalkeeper Joy Watson, pushing the visitors ahead 6-0 at the break.

Eight minutes into the second half, Furuyama tallied her fourth. Queens Player of the Game Estel Quinteros struck four times in the latter half. Kalbfleisch added a pair of goals. Kowalchuk added a single in the 75th minute. Fittingly, Furuyama tacked on two more goals in the final seven minutes.

With the offensive explosion, Furuyama has 25 goals over seven games and is knocking on the door of a new league season goal scoring record. In 2014/2015, NAIT's Kayla Michaels scored 26 goals.

Queens goalkeeper Danyelle Bouvier earned the shutout.

As a team, the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens have scored 67 goals this season which leads the league. The SAIT Trojans sit second in offensive production with 40 goals.

Averaging 8.38 goals per game, the Queens are on pace to break the previous record of 77 goals in one season by the 2019/2020 NAIT Ooks.

The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens (7-1-0) will host the fifth seed University of Alberta Augustana Vikings (3-4-0) on Saturday, October 8 at 1 pm. Then three games remain in the regular season for the RDP Queens.
