The Kings and Kodiaks draw for the second time this season

Raymond, October 16 - The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings Soccer team battled to a 2-2 draw against the Lethbridge College Kodiaks on Saturday.

This would be the second draw between these two teams.

The Kings were able to get a taste of the field they could play on at championships as their match took place at Comet Stadium in Raymond.

10 minutes into the match, the Kings were able to build an attack from their defense line and swing the ball to winger Grant Johnson. He would one touch it to midfielder Ajdin Sarcevic, who would control it then lay it off to Kaidri Bornyi (Open Studies). He would get a shot off from 20 yards out and put it top corner to open the scoring.

At the 27th minute mark, winger Brandon Francis one timed a pass from Kodiaks Ethan Meerkerk and put it past Kings keeper Jared St. Thomas. This would tie the match at one.

Just before half, Lethbridge's keeper Ethan Demers received a red card for denying a goal opportunity with his hands outside the 18-yard box. The Kings were awarded a free kick from 22 yards out. Sarcevic would step over it and strike it top corner over the Kodiaks goaltender Trey Lukye for the Kings second goal of the match.

In the second half, the intensity was not there like it was in the first and the Kings were looking to just defend their lead

Later on, Kings Johnson and Sheku Sesay would both receive a yellow card. Johnson was given the warning for unsporting behaviour and Sesay delayed the match after the whistle blew down the play.

Later on, the Kodiaks managed to put home the equalizer in the 74th minute. Defender Vincent Dyck scored the goal with an assist from teammate Daniel Okpala.

First-year striker Ashton Champan was given the Kings third yellow card of the match for persistent infringement.

The game would end in a 2-2 draw.

The Kings player of the game was awarded to Sarcevic who finished the match with one goal and one assist. For the Kodiaks, it was Francis awarded with the honour after scoring the first tying goal of the match.

The Kings will move on to Medicine Hat College tomorrow to take on the Rattlers. Kickoff will be just after 2 pm.
