The Kings pull away with a gutsy win in Olds

Olds, February 4, 2023 – It was definitely a close game in Olds as the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings battled with the Olds College Broncos right until the final second of the game.

As they face off with the Broncos for the second consecutive night, the Kings struggled early on with the Broncos holding the lead for most of the first quarter. RDP had a small deficit to climb after falling down 19-13 in the first quarter as they struggled to score on their chances with a very defensive Broncos team putting up a fight.

The struggles of the Kings continued into the second quarter as they could not seem to run their offense and find a way through a very tight-grouped Broncos defense. At the end of the half, the Kings found themselves holding a five-point lead with a score of 43-38. Guard Eduardo Crespo (Academic Upgrading) found himself with a slight lead in points with 13 but six of his teammates also found points in the half to round out a team effort.

It was a much different game tonight than it was last night in Red Deer as the Broncos continued to fight and stay within striking distance of the Kings. The third quarter was very tight with both teams finding their scoring ways. But RDP managed to extend their lead slightly with the score heading into the fourth being 66-59. It was still anyone's game at this point.

Halfway through the quarter, just eight points were scored in what continued to be a battle for both teams. The game came down to the final couple of minutes with the Kings finally pulling away to take the game 85-77. The Broncos put up quite a fight and did not give up at all in the 40 minutes played.

The Kings player of the game was Eduardo Crespo. He finished with 29 points and 15 rebounds enroute to a double-double.

The next home game for the Kings will be Friday, February 17 when they take on the Concordia University Thunder at 6 pm. But they will be in action next week when they travel up north to take on the NAIT Ooks on Friday, February 10 with the game starting at 8 pm. Catch the game live on ACACTV.
