Kodiaks take home decision over Kings, split weekend series

Lethbridge, AB - Despite a 30 point performance from Kings All-Conference guard Tyronn King, Red Deer Polytechnic couldn't overtake the host Lethbridge College Kodiaks on Sunday afternoon. 

The Kodiaks picked up an 83-74 decision, splitting the weekend series with the Kings. 

Lethbridge College jumped out to a 25-19 first quarter lead on the strength of nine points from Paycen Blackmore, who came off the bench to spark the offence. 

The Kings defence went to work in the second quarter, limiting the home team to only 13 points. Red Deer Polytechnic scored 15 points in the quarter, but trailed 38-34 at the half. 

Toronto's Tyronn King had 13 points at the break. Rocky Mountain House's Payton Baltzer chipped in with six. 

The RDP Kings had their best offensive showing in the third quarter, scoring 25 points. They added 15 points in the final frame.

Lethbridge College drained 45 points in the second half and wrapped up the home win. 

Six-foot-three Eduardo Crespo had another good game, contributing 18 points, three assists, three steals, and one rebound over 29 minutes for RDP.

Brett Hochhausen, a Business Administration Marketing student, and Payton Baltzer, a Bachelor of Science student, had eight points each for the Kings.

Lethbridge College recorded 36 rebounds and Red Deer Polytechnic picked up 24 boards. 

Once again, Orin Porter led the Kodiaks with 23 points. Paycen Blackmore finished with 21. 

The home team was 53.2 per cent efficient from the field. The Kings connected on 41.1 per cent of their shots from the field. 

The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings (1-1) will host the Olds College Broncos (0-2) on Friday, November 19 at 6 pm.
