RDP Athletics Recap

This past week, the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings Hockey team earned two wins over the Portage College Voyageurs. Both RDP Volleyball teams defeated the Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves. The Kings Volleyball squad earned a victory over The King's University Eagles while the Queens were edged in five sets. The Kings and Queens Basketball squads split their weekend series.

Hockey

Kings vs. Voyageurs | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre | Friday, November 14

The RDP Kings Hockey team defeated the Portage College Voyageurs 4-1 at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre. Nolan Doell (Bachelor of Education) scored twice for the Kings. Mason Bueckert and Holden Knights added singles. Evan Fradette, a fourth-year goaltender from St. Albert, made 43 saves (0.977) in the Kings' net.

Kings vs. Voyageurs | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre | Saturday, November 15

The first place Kings (10-0) picked up a 7-6 decision over the fourth seed Voyageurs (3-5). Doell recorded a pair of markers. Tristan Baumung, Kody Willick, Ryland McNinch, Nic Andrusiak and Shayne Tibbles added goals for the Polytechnic.

Volleyball

Queens vs. Wolves | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre | Friday, November 14

The Queens Volleyball team defeated the Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves in four sets (25-13, 23-25, 25-13 and 25-21). Brooke Bergstrom, a first-year outside hitter from Airdrie, led the Queens with 11 kills.

Queens vs. Eagles | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre | Saturday, November 15

The South's second place RDP Queens (5-2) dropped a five-set decision to the North's second seed The King's University Eagles (5-2) by scores of 18-25, 25-22, 25-27, 25-17 and 11-15. Setter Maria Brouwer accumulated 45 assists, nine digs and four kills for RDP.

Kings vs. Wolves | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre | Friday, November 14

The RDP Kings Volleyball team swept the Wolves 25-13, 25-22 and 25-18. Red Deer's Colby Nemeth had a game-high 14 kills.  

Kings vs. Eagles | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre | Saturday, November 15

The South's second seed RDP Kings (5-2) downed the North's fourth place The King's University Eagles (2-5) in straight sets (25-23, 25-12 and 25-14). Netana Samia, a six-foot-three setter from New Zealand, stacked up 25 assists and four kills for the Kings.

Basketball

Queens at Northwestern Polytechnic | Friday, November 14

The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Basketball team downed the Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves 63-42. Avery Stypula, a second-year guard from Spruce Grove, led the Queens with 19 points.  

Queens at The King's University | Saturday, November 15

The Queens (2-5) fell 82-52 to The King's University Eagles (5-1) on the road. Jorgia Hicks contributed 13 points, five assists, three steals and a rebound for the Polytechnic.

Kings at Northwestern Polytechnic | Friday, November 14

The RDP Kings Basketball squad earned a 74-70 victory against the Wolves. William Tcherkachine, a first-year guard from Toronto, powered the Kings' offence with 28 points.

Kings at The King's University | Saturday, November 15

The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings (1-6) were downed 86-66 by the Eagles (2-4) in Edmonton. Donovan Snider, a six-foot-five forward from Fort St. John, BC, led RDP with 17 points.
