New era begins for RDP Queens Basketball
The Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) Queens Basketball program is entering an exciting new chapter as it welcomes incoming head coach Dante Dinter beginning in the 2025/2026 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) season. Dinter, formerly an assistant coach with the MacEwan University Griffins of U Sports, steps into the role following the departure of Avery Harrison.
"We are excited to welcome Dante to RDP," says Randy Stewart, Manager, Athletics and Student Life, Red Deer Polytechnic. "With both playing and coaching experience at the post-secondary level, Dante is well equipped to foster a supportive environment that empowers student-athletes to develop their skills and reach their potential."
Dinter brings a robust resumé to RDP. In addition to working with Griffins Head Coach Katherine Adams, he has led the Jasper Place High School team and served as Program Director and Coach for Edmonton's ITD Panther Basketball Club. His holistic approach to coaching is rooted in a deep commitment to player development—both on and off the court.
With a post-secondary playing career that includes time as a student-athlete for both the Keyano College Huskies and the NAIT Ooks, Dinter brings a passion for excellence at every level.
"My vision is to recruit student-athletes committed to growth, building a strong team around returning talent at Red Deer Polytechnic," says Dinter. "Personalized development plans will enhance their academics, skills and leadership. This approach nurtures high-level contributors on the court and within the community while re-establishing the program's championship pedigree."
Beyond competition, Dinter is dedicated to building a team culture rooted in comprehensive achievement.
"I am committed not only to athletic excellence but also to fostering a positive, inclusive team culture where every student-athlete feels empowered to grow as a leader both on and off the court," adds Dinter. "I look forward to the opportunity to bring my passion, experience and dedication to Red Deer Polytechnic and contribute to the continued success of the Queens Basketball program."
Dinter will begin his role as RDP Queens Basketball Head Coach on July 7, 2025.
On Friday, October 17, Dinter and the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Basketball team will open the 2025/2026 season against the NAIT Ooks on RDP's main campus in the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre at 6 pm.
The Queens concluded last season with a 12-9 record, securing fourth place in the ACAC Women's Basketball South Division before injuries mounted in the playoffs. With new leadership at the helm, the program is poised to build on its foundation and reignite its pursuit of championship success. The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens most recently won the ACAC Women's Basketball Championship in 2023.
