Queens earn first, Kings place second at Grand Prix #5

Camrose, AB - In the final Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Running Room Grand Prix before the championship, the Red Deer College Cross Country Running team proved that it will be a serious contender for ACAC medals on Saturday, October 27. The RDC Queens finished first and the Kings earned second spot at Running Room Grand Prix #5, hosted by the University of Alberta Augustana Vikings.

The RDC Queens and Lethbridge College Kodiaks were tied in points but the Queens' fourth place runner had a faster time than Lethbridge College's. Jill Stewart (24:27) led the way for the RDC women with a 3rd overall finish. RDC's Shayla Sklaruk (25:44) had a tremendous race as well, completing the 6 km course in 7th. Sophia Nowicki (23:47), from Lethbridge College, was the top ACAC female runner while Emilie Mann (24:06), of SAIT, was 19 seconds behind for second spot.

Matthew Hope (26:27) was the Kings' fastest runner over 8 km, and the Bachelor of Education student from Red Deer placed third overall among ACAC male runners, only two seconds behind second. First-year RDC Business Administration student, Daniel Szucs (29:06) also had an impressive day with a 7th place finish.

SAIT's Matt Travaglini (25:48) was first and Concordia University's Leonard Chesoo (26:25) placed second.

Lakeland College will host the ACAC Cross Country Running Championships on Saturday, October 27.
