The Red Deer Cross-Country Running team had an excellent showing last weekend and carried that over on Saturday at Grand Prix #2 in Calgary. Lethbridge College, a traditionally solid cross-country running team, entered this week's competition but the RDC runners continued to excel regardless of who their opponents were. The Queens remarkably finished 1st as a team while the Kings earned 2nd as a group.

Jordanna Cota continued her dominance among Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) female runners. Cota, from Red Deer, finished 1st (25:15) in consecutive weeks. Jill Stewart completed the 6 kilometre race in 3rd place (26:27). Janaya Garbe, a Bachelor of Science student, crossed the finish line in 8th spot (27:21) while Shaelyn Moltzahn earned 10th (27:39).

Lacombe's Adam Wass had another strong race and finished the 8 kilometre course in 6th place (31:32) among ACAC male runners. Stephen Rowley was 11 seconds behind Wass and placed 8th (31:43). Cory DeRaadt was in 12th spot (33:07) and Max Abraham, from Airdrie, was 6 seconds behind to place 13th (33:13).

RDC Cross-Country Running Head Coach Kari Elliott was very happy with Saturday's performances. "The course was harder than last weekend. It was a two kilometre loop with four major hills. It was a very good day with epic races from both our Queens and Kings," said Elliott. "Jill Stewart ran really well and beat a runner that defeated her last season. The Kings learned from the fast start last weekend and used that experience and discipline for today's gutsy performance."
