Petrie scores a pair, Queens down Broncos

Friday in Olds, the Red Deer College Queens Hockey team earned their second straight victory in as many nights. After the Broncos jumped out to a 2 goal lead, the RDC Queens bounced back with 4 straight goals of their own and earned the 4-2 road victory.
 
Tracie Kikuchi started in the Queens' net while Catalina Hartland guarded the Broncos' cage. In the opening 20 minutes, neither team could capitalize on their chances and the teams skated into the intermission with a scoreless tie.
 
At 2:17 into the second period, Krista Wilson put Olds College up 1-0. Wilson tried to centre a pass from behind the goal line but her attempt hit a player, and the puck managed to find its' way into the net. Faith Volk extended the Broncos' lead by a pair at 3:53. Just over a minute later, Catherine Longchamps reduced the Broncos' lead by a goal at 5:04. Morgan Fraser picked up the assist. The Queens continued to press and at 9:24 Jade Petrie tied the game 2-2. Neisha Germann was credited with the helper.
 
At 8:54 into the final frame, Jade Petrie scored from outside of the slot to put the Queens up 3-2. Cassidy Anderson earned the assist. With only 1:28 remaining, Jordyn Burgar scored the insurance goal to help seal a 4-2 win. Burgar pounced on a rebound and buried her shot into the open net. Morgan Fraser was awarded her second assist of the game. Kikuchi turned aside 16-of-18 shots and earned the win in goal, while Hartland stopped 20-of-24 attempts. 
 
Queens Hockey Head Coach Kelly Coulter was very happy with the consistent effort. "We played a very solid 60 minutes of hockey tonight," said Coulter. "It was a very good effort by all 20 players and our penalty kill was good again in this game."
 
A few performances stood out. "Jade Petrie had an excellent game and she created many scoring chances," said Coulter. "Kaely McMurtry had a very strong two-way game tonight."
 
The Queens (2-2-1-0) will host the SAIT Trojans (0-2-0-0) on Thursday, October 19 at the ENMAX Centrium at 7:00 p.m.
