Despite the Queens sweeping the Lions in three straight sets, it was a very close contest at Ambrose University in Calgary on Friday evening.

The Queens would take the first 25-23.

But the Lions continued to battle as they looked to tie the match up at one in the second set. The Queens, on the other hand, had different ideas and pulled away in the late stages to take the second set 25-21.

As they looked to sweep the Lions, RDP came out firing on all cylinders in the early stages of what would be the final set. But the Lions came together and battled back into the match as they looked to push the match to a fourth game. Ultimately, the team out of Calgary could not find the lead and the Queens would take the third set 25-19 to take the match.

At the end of the match middle-blocker Autumn Roos (Bachelor of Education) led the Queens in kills with 10 with RDP finishing with a total of 32 in the match.

The Queens player of the game was awarded to libero Frankie Sandini (Justice Studies), who had seven digs in the three-set match win. These two teams will battle it out in a rematch tomorrow evening in Red Deer.

Despite it being a three-set sweep of the Lions, the Kings had their work cut out for them as in each set the Lions came out to fight.

In the third, the Lions and Kings put on quite the show and it remained close halfway through the set. But Ambrose could not hold off the impressive Kings offence for much longer in the match with RDP pulling away and taking the match with a 25-19 third-set victory.

Setter Tom Wass had 31 assists in the three sets and was awarded the Kings player of the match. On offence, the Kings were led by outside-hitter Noah Carlson (Open Studies) with 13 kills but outside-hitter Colby Nemeth (Bachelor of Commerce) was right behind Carlson with 12.
