Jayden Fathers and Kings topple Broncos for ninth consecutive win

Olds College, AB The determined RDC Kings held off the gritty Olds College Broncos and downed the host club in four sets (25-16, 25-23, 20-25 and 25-18), winning their ninth consecutive Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) match.

Setters Ryan Beatson (33 assists) and Thomas Wass (10 assists) spread out the offence with three Kings hitting double-digits in kills. Regan Fathers led the group with 13. Ben Holmes picked up 12 and Jayden Fathers contributed 10.

Once again, Thundersky Walkingbear was one of the Broncos' main weapons, totaling 11 kills, eight digs, two aces and one stuff block. 

First-year power hitter Jayden Fathers, from Seacliff, South Australia, was selected as the Kings Player-of-the-Game, adding three digs, two assists, two stuff blocks and one ace to his 10 kills.

Mason Muller received the award for the Broncos, achieving 28 assists, four digs, three kills and two aces.

With the victory, the Kings move into a tie for second spot in the south with the SAIT Trojans (12-4). Both teams trail the division leading Lethbridge College Kodiaks (14-0) by four points.

On Friday, January 18 at 8:00 p.m., the second place RDC Kings (12-4) will entertain the Briercrest College Clippers (7-7) at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre.
