RDC Kings clip Briercrest College in four sets

Caronport, SK - After the Briercrest College Clippers took the first set, the RDC Kings created some momentum with strong play and won the next three sets to cap off a four set victory (25 - 27, 25 - 20, 25 - 12 and 25 - 15). 

Kings Volleyball Head Coach Aaron Schulha appreciated an improved performance which included a persistent comeback. "It was much better today, especially in the last two sets. I didn't know how we would respond after dropping the first set but the guys kept battling, and they stayed with the game plan," he says. "We really took it to them late. Our blocking and defence were much better today, although we were a little bit undisciplined at times at the net."

There were several student-athletes who played an effective match. "I thought that Tom did a much better job with set quality and set choices today," says Schulha. "Regan was quite solid with 20 kills and I was also impressed with Jace Martin, Jonathan (JJ) Graham and Chris Petersen, who didn't start last night but made the most of their opportunities today."

Regan Fathers was named the Kings Player-of-the-Game. The six-foot-six outside hitter from East Fremantle, Western Australia, accumulated 20 kills and 6 digs in the win. Jace Martin had 8 kills, 4 assists, 2 digs and 4 block assists. JJ Graham recorded 5 kils, 2 service aces and 3 digs. Chris Petersen picked up 7 digs and 1 assist.

Next weekend, the Kings (1 - 3) will compete against the SAIT Trojans (3 - 1) in a home-and-home series. On Friday, October 26 the RDC Kings will travel to Calgary to face the Trojans at 8:00 p.m. On Saturday at 8:00 p.m., the Kings will entertain the Trojans at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre.
