In their final game of the season, the Red Deer College Kings Soccer team faced the Lakeland College Rustlers on the road on Saturday afternoon. The RDC Kings never trailed in the contest. They led by 2 goals at the half, added a pair in the final 45 minutes and rolled to a 4-1 victory.

Jacob Hamilton was the starting goalkeeper for the RDC Kings. The first-year student-athlete from Lacombe was strong in net and made some key saves.

In the opening half, RDC pulled ahead 2-0 on goals from Hugo Janssen and Matthew Elphick. The Kings continued to pour it on and added 2 more goals in the final 45 minutes. Theoren Gill, a Bachelor of Education (Elementary) student, scored both goals for the Kings in the latter half. The Lakeland College Rustlers struck on a penalty kick but it wasn't enough and the RDC Kings Soccer squad earned a 4-1 win.

Kings Soccer Head Coach Wade Groenewegen was pleased with the win and noted the positive play of several student-athletes. "This afternoon, there were excellent performances from Theoren Gill, Matthew Elphick and Jacob Hamilton in net," said Groenewegen.

The Red Deer College Kings' (2-7-1) season is complete as they didn't qualify for the playoffs. The road victory was a great way to finish the season for the young Kings team and they will look to use the experience this year for a push towards the postseason in 2018.
