Trojans take round one of home-and-home series over visiting Kings

Calgary, AB - The Red Deer College Kings led by a goal midway through the game, but the SAIT Trojans responded with five straight goals, sealing a 7-3 decision at home.

At 18:49 of the first, Jackson McKinstry beat Troy Trombley to provide SAIT a 1-0 edge. 

Less than three minutes into the second period, the Kings pulled ahead 2-1 with goals from Chase Thudium and Lynnden Pastachak. After Joren Patenaude knotted the contest 2-2, Kings forward Ryley Smith connected while shorthanded to restore a one goal margin at 14:33. Then, within a two minute span, the Trojans jumped ahead 5-3.

SAIT added another pair of goals in the third and wrapped up a 7-3 home win. 

Trevor Costello, Tanner Butler, Tyrell Mappin and Dylan Baer recorded assists for the Kings. 

The SAIT Trojans outshot the RDC Kings 40-34. Trombley made 33 saves and Payton Lee stopped 31 shots.

With the win, the Trojans (15-5-0-0) took sole possession of second spot. NAIT (17-6-0-0) leads the way with 34 points. MacEwan University (14-5-1-0) trails SAIT by a single point and the RDC Kings (13-6-1-1) sit in fourth with 28 points. The University of Alberta Augustana Vikings (13-7-1-0) are next with 27 points. 

On Saturday at 7:00 p.m., the Kings (13-6-1-1) will host the Trojans (15-5-0-0) at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre, and the graduating student-athletes will be recognized.
