Pastachak's three points help Kings down Clippers in Penhold

Saturday afternoon, the RDC Kings hosted the Briercrest College Clippers in the second game of a weekend series, and after the Kings pulled out to an early lead they didn't look back. The Kings scored a pair in the first period, continued to press and they skated to a 6-1 home win.

Nathan Alalouf and Mike Salmon shared time in net for the Kings. Dan Dekoning was back between the pipes for the Clippers.

The Kings set the tone of the game early. Donovan Lumb struck at 1:07 of the first period to give the Kings a 1-0 lead. Chase Thudium had the assist. Lumb scored his second of the period at 12:19 to give RDC a two goal cushion. Tanner Butler and Arie Postmus picked up the helpers. The Kings outshot the Clippers 16-3 over 20 minutes.

Tyrell Mappin gave the RDC Kings a 3-0 lead at 2:15 of the second period. Lynnden Pastachak and Tanner Butler set up the goal. Austin Kozluk got the Clippers on the board less than 2 minutes later, but Jacob Wozney restored the 3 goal lead at 10:10. Scott Ferguson had the lone assist. RDC tested Dekoning 16 more times. Briercrest College had 7 second period shots.

Defenceman Tanner Butler found the back of the net at 6:43 of the third to push the Kings ahead 5-1. Dylan Baer and Lynnden Pastachak earned the assists. With 5:32 remaining, Tyler Berkholtz salted the game away 6-1. Lynnden Pastachak and Tyrell Mappin set up the marker. The Kings dominated the shot clock, outshooting the Clippers 19-1. Over 60 minutes, RDC outshot Briercrest College 51-11.

The Kings penalty kill was strong once again. The RDC team killed off all five Clippers' opportunities with the man advantage.

The second place RDC Kings (14-5-1-0) will compete against the third place MacEwan University Griffins (13-6-0-0) on Friday, January 26 at 7:00 p.m. in Edmonton.
