This week in RDC Athletics
This week, the Red Deer College Golf team will hit the course for their first competition of the season. The RDC Cross-Country team will look to repeat their strong performance in Calgary and both soccer teams will play a pair of home games.
RDC Golf | Saturday, Sept. 16 | North Regionals | Camrose Golf & Country Club
The Red Deer College Golf team looks strong once again as they head into the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Golf North Regionals at the Camrose Golf & Country Club. Many top golfers are back this year and the new recruits will positively add to the team.
"The Queens team will be very competitive. Shaye Leidenius is very driven and had a strong year. She played some very good golf, is set to lead the women's team and should push to be one of the top female ACAC golfers this season," said head coach Scott Bergdahl, the 2016-2017 ACAC Golf Coach of the Year. "If our top five male golfers bring their best, they are as good as any top five in the province. This group has a lot of potential."
The University of Alberta (Augustana) will host the competition.

RDC Cross-Country | Saturday, Sept. 16 | Grand Prix #2 | SAIT /St. Mary's University
The Red Deer College Cross-Country Running team will look to use the momentum they gained from last weekend into Grand Prix #2 in Calgary this Saturday. Last weekend, the Queens earned 1st place as an ACAC team while the Kings finished 2nd as a group. Jordanna Cota, from Red Deer, will look to repeat her 1st place individual performance down south.
Queens Soccer | Saturday, Sept. 16 | 12:00 p.m. | RDC Field
In the home opener, the Red Deer College Queens (0-0-2) will face the Olds College Broncos (0-1-0). The Queens created a lot of pressure on their opposition this past weekend, but want to work on finishing their opportunities. Queens Soccer Head Coach Esad Elkaz plans to practice those situations with the team. "This week in practice we want to work on our shooting, breakaways, one-on-ones and two-on-twos," said Elkaz.
The head coach likes how the Queens are coming together. "The team worked very hard," said Elkaz. "It was a good weekend to build that trust and friendship among teammates."

The RDC Queens will host the SAIT Trojans (1-0-0) in this afternoon contest.
Kings Soccer | Saturday, Sept. 16| 2:00 p.m. | RDC Field
The RDC Kings (0-2-0) will play their first home game of the season against the Olds College Broncos (0-1-0). Despite a pair of setbacks this past weekend, there were several positive performances from the student-athletes.
RDC Kings Soccer Head Coach Wade Groenewegen identified an area to work on in practice this week. "We will continue to work on our speed in training," said Groenewegen. "The overall idea is there, but the execution of the final pass has to improve."

Following the Queens, the RDC Kings will take on the SAIT Trojans (1-0-0).
